#Oswald Chambers Use vs. Value

Oswald Chambers wrote in his devotional My Utmost for His Highest-WOW,that title alone could inspire a post- that our value to God is greater to Him than our use. I think we’ve got that backwards today! Don’t we?

We think that the more we do the more acceptable we are…to whom? We must, right, cuz we load up our “schedules” and are always trying to squeeze in one more thing. And our kids are following in our footsteps.

It’s not a matter of how much we do for God that makes us pleasing to God. It’s not even that we attend all the services at church and give in the offering. We can even be out three or four times a week “evangelizing.” No, that’s not it at all!

Luke 12:24 Consider the ravens; for they neither sow nor reap, which neither have storehouse nor barn, and God feeds them; how much more are you better than the fowls.

We need to know that we are special and dearly loved by our heavenly Father. He loves a brand new Christian as much as a seasoned long-time soldier in God’s army. A pastor is not more valuable than a child in the preschool class.

What about some of the weaker members of the body like some of the older saints, the sick, or the handicapped. Are the important ones those who can go do outreach? What about a young or single mom? Are we going to discount their contribution to the Body of Christ because it does not line up with someone else’s vision for ministry?

“But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore, you are of more value than many sparrows.” Luke 12:7
