my glory and the lifter of my head (Psalm 3)

Many there are who say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. vs.2

The situation we’re in may have us downcast. We may feel that we’re of little use! Remember our value. Remember our position.

Selah.

But You, oh Lord, are a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of my head.

The One who lifts our head is the One who restores us to the position He gave us. In Genesis 40, Pharaoh threw his butler and baker in prison for an indicretion. Joseph, in verse 13, told the butler that within three days Pharaoh “would lift up your head and restore you to your place.”

I am reminded of a crippled woman Corrie ten Boom mentions in one of her books. She lived in a country having an oppressive government that was unfavorable toward Christianity and did not allow free speech. Because of her disability, the authorities did not consider her to be any threat, so she avoided their scrutiny. With one finger she typed out Scripture verses freely. Her activities went under the radar.

We may not feel like what we’re doing is of much significance or we may be greatly limited by our circumstances. Our efforts for the Lord may go unnoticed or be hidden like Gideon’s undercover work. That’s okay.

Some of us are so downtrodden or weak we can’t imagine being of much use to God in our condition. Don’t let that stop any of us. Read what Gideon said about himself in Judges chapter six. He hardly thought himself a likely candidate to be used by the Lord. However, God enabled him. Just like God equipped Gideon, He will equip and use us regardless of condition or circumstance.

And the name of the second (son) called he (Joseph) Ephraim: For God has caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.” Genesis 41:52
