Abiding in His Word

God expects us to trust Him.

As I mentioned yesterday that God did not withhold even His Son from us, so…

how shall he not also with him freely give us all things? Rom. 8:32

Yet, we have no more confidence in God than a mere man. Do we consider God to be similar to the gods of the Greeks and Romans that had all the human frailties, but had supernatural powers?

Psalm 135

15The idols of the nations are silver and gold, The work of men’s hands.

16They have mouths, but they speak not; Eyes have they, but they see not;

17They have ears, but they hear not; Neither is there any breath in their mouths.

18They that make them shall be like unto them; Yea, every one that trusteth in them.

We would never say that we are trusting in an idol, but how often do we insist on working things out ourselves? Isn’t that the same as trusting in the work of our own hands?

Psalm 20

7Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will make mention of the name of Jehovah our God.

Proverbs 18

10The name of Jehovah is a strong tower; The righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
