Sowing in famine

I’ve received provision in various and unexpected ways!

The pride of man would say, “It’s me who got it done!”, “I did it my way!”, OR “I can do it on my own!”

But, I cannot say any of those things, nor do I want to. I would not be here today without divine intervention.

Last week in the devotional “Our Daily Bread” I read about financial ruin resulting from the expenses of a life-threatening illness. I’m thankful to say that this is not our case. The Lord provided for our medical needs, food and living expenses, even maintenance and insurance for our car!

Obviously, we did not pass these many months without a degree of suffering or discomfort, but we have been well-cared for. And God used the Body of Christ so that we honestly did not feel any lack. We even were able to give and bless other people.

1Tim. 6:10

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows. (WEB)

A big bank account or house should not be our goal.

Dt. 8:18 But you shall remember Yahweh your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth; that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as at this day. (WEB)

"But I'm barely getting by!!!"

Do what you can…

Dt. 15:7

If there be with you a poor man, one of your brothers, within any of your gates in your land which Yahweh your God gives you, you shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother; (WEB)

Mt. 5:42 Give to him who asks you, and don’t turn away him who desires to borrow from you. (WEB)

2Cor. 9:8

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that you, always having all sufficiency in everything, may abound to every good work. (WEB)

Steve Main said in A God-Made Millionaire (Kindle Edition location 72-75):

Looking down on wealthy individuals is a popular pastime in our country. Many people look down their noses at people with money and make accusations about their character. Many of the people who do this are insecure, lack faith and are afraid. Fear racks them and causes them to rationalize why money is bad.

Yet some of these same individuals look to the wealthy do take care of them OR strive to be like them. If the situation was reversed, how generous and giving would they (WE) be.

Heaping up for ourselves?

1Tim. 6:9

But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction. (WEB)

We do not have to labor to get rich! When we are God-led and good stewards of the resources entrusted to us, the world economy does not matter.

Gen. 26:1 There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar…Gen. 26:12 Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. Yahweh blessed him. (WEB)

What does God really require of our resources?
