Benefits of becoming a chaplain

Chaplaincy is not for everyone!

  • opens doors
  • establishes credibility
  • denotes level of accomplishment
  • affirms privilege to perform functions:

Opening doors

Being a certified chaplain can give a Christian worker access to secular organizations or places that would not be available to lay ministers or clergy.

Mark 6:3-5

Isn’t this the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Jude, and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” They were offended at him. Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and among his own relatives, and in his own house.” He could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people, and healed them. Establishes credibility

Even Jesus was not recognized and the extent of His ministry limited by the perceptions of those around Him. The Pharisees asked where He got authority to say and do what He did.

Denotes level of accomplishment

People often have a higher respect for knowledge obtained through pursuing a course than through personal study and experience. A certificate validates the level of expertise in their minds.

Affirms privilege to perform functions

People often expect only authorized agents have the ability to officiate ceremonies. Individuals seek designated persons such as chaplains to satisfy these roles as opposed to lay persons, friends, or peers.
