Making my own way or God making the way?

Although they can be stodgy, religious, or focused primarily on their own area of ministry, missionaries are among the most non-conforming genre of people I know. They are not unusual just for the sake of being unusual. They merely march to the beat of a different drummer.

All you have to do is talk to a few and you can see they aren’t carried along by the currents of opinion. And if you heve any doubt, visit their furlough housing. Where else on any given day, as long as it is not raining, do you see clothes drying on the line at every house!!???

Letting God bring it to pass in His own time

We all know that Moses was called to be the Deliverer of his people. But, we can see in this passage that this fact was not recognized when he tried to rescue his confederates from being mistreated.

Exodus 2

11 It happened in those days, when Moses had grown up, that he went out to his brothers, and looked at their burdens. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his brothers.

12 He looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no one, he killed the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

13 He went out the second day, and behold, two men of the Hebrews were fighting with each other. He said to him who did the wrong, “Why do you strike your fellow?”

14 He said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you plan to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?” Moses was afraid, and said, “Surely this thing is known.”

15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and lived in the land of Midian, and he sat down by a well.

I don’t know about you, but I understand the calling on my life not being recognized! At 19 years old I went to a church leader telling him/her that I was called to the mission field. Their response? “Sure, everybody

If I had listened to that person I wouldn’t have gone where I did, do any of what I’ve done, nor be where/who I am today!!!

We need

  • to follow our hearts.
  • to be careful to speak encouraging words!

Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up (edifying) as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Don’t you be the one to squash someone’s dreams!

Compliant or Complaint

My daughter often uses the word “compliant” [not to be confused with complaint] regarding patients in their prescribed restorative treatment programs. The term refers to how well they cooperate with “professionals'” instructions for follow up by regularly implementing or incorporating the appropriate remedies at home.

My question for YOU today is, “How well do you follow God’s prescription for resolving your ‘issues’?”

Do you take “God’s Medicine” daily?  Pr. 4:22 For they [God’s words/medicine] are life to those who find them, and health to their whole body

Do you follow His prescribed treatment or mentally assent without putting His guidelines into practice?

Benefits? BENEFITS! (i.e. 2wordstory)

Jos. 1:7 Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you. Don’t turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.

I think so, and you?

What can YOU offer your fellow chaplains/alumni or ministry-minded friends?

I was in awe earlier this year how the Lord plans and orchestrates the work of the ministry, if we let Him.

I had approached a counselor about speaking at an ICT continuing education seminar this year on the topic of stress, but the logistics were not falling into place. So, I resigned myself to putting the idea on a back burner.

No man is an island.

There must be a balance in our organizations and organizing. While we cannot just leave ministry to chance-in other words, making plans-it is imperative that a Christian program be formulated by the inspiration of the Spirit of God.!

We are

a Body Ministry.

No stars or headliners here! And there is definitely no room for egos…

…even mine.

Imagine the blessing, and testimony, that an ICT chaplain attending this year’s opening event in January had it on her heart to do a session on STRESS!

That brings us to the post title: what can you offer others through ICT?

  • Can you teach one of the certification course sessions?
  • Do you have some necessary skills to share that would help a co-laborer?
  • Are you technically gifted, motivational, or good at logistics or communication?

Rom. 12:5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

The God-pleasers

George Müller…

has always been an inspiration to my faith walk. The French translation of his classic biography is a staple in my devotional library! Although I do not agree with some of his doctrinal beliefs, his position of faith, which he gleaned from Germany’s Franck, continues to be a shining example. Who can’t help but be inspired by a man who received millions and fed thousands of orphans by making his needs known to God alone!

Heb. 11:6 Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.

Like Müller, God has been faithful to supply our many needs without our looking to other sources. Though, of course, He uses man, we cannot trust in the arms of flesh.

2 Chr. 32:8 with him is an arm of flesh; but with us is Yahweh our God to help us, and to fight our battles. The people rested themselves on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah. (WEB)

God chooses to meet our needs in His own way! That’s what is meant by “sovereign,” not that we must ENDURE what He throws at us.

How often this is humbling for our independent, self-sufficient bent! Look at the magnificent way God has worked healing in my body and supplied for every need: treatment, living situation, etc…

Not long ago, I approached a brother inquiring about the rehabilitative exercises he was given to do after surgery. I was astounded by his response! Recommending an orthopedic doctor, he had me on the operating table for a hip replacement in two shakes of a lamb’s tail…

2 Chr. 16:12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet; his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he didn’t seek Yahweh, but to the physicians. (WEB)

The key is to flow with His will which is divinely BEST, working out the optimum benefit for us, His children.

updated/re-post 2015/04/17: Dis-appointment, His-appointment

Alas and Alack!

2 Chr. 16:12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet; his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he didn’t seek Yahweh, but to the physicians.

Don’t wait until your problem or dis-ease is exceeding great, but begin to seek the Lord in little things to meet your needs! Looking primarily to other sources in the example above cost Asa his life, but this was not the first time. The habit did not start on this occasion.

2 Chr. 16:7 At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him, Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and have not relied on Yahweh your God, therefore is the army of the king of Syria escaped out of your hand.

Preparation is the key. If you think you’re going to start trusting God or believing Him when a crisis strikes-think again! Step out now!

Just because I am cancer-free now after being afflicted with stage four ovarian last year does not make me battle-free. I must stand my ground…

Recently, I faced a gum tissue graft-resulting from a familial jaw structure possibly aggravated by that illness and treatment. Not a life-threatening condition, but annoying nonetheless. I could have “looked to” medical personnel alone, but like David I chose to seek the Lord.

1 Sam. 17:37 David said, Yahweh who delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. Saul said to David, Go, and Yahweh shall be with you.

What is your bear, lion, or gum graft?

Look to Him-

Your insurance requires pre-authorization for surgery which takes 7-14 days. I would really feel more comfortable rescheduling than risk having to cancel at the last minute.”

Do we really trust the Lord? Implicitly? No matter what?

He was already handling this thing contrary to howI figured He’d receive the greatest glory and the most recognition!

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways say the Lord. Isaiah 55:8

Oncology nurse A’s words really took the wind out of my sails. None of us realized how the insurance change beginning April 1 affected next week’s procedures until we got ready to leave today’s consultation. So, next Friday a.m. instead of inserting a filter in a vein to prevent clotting from breaking loose and the expected tumor removal in the p.m., I will be going in for overnight chemotherapy again Thursday, April 23.

This will allow XXX Insurance time to approve the surgical procedure and the Lovenox prescription to wean me from the blood thinner I take so my blood will clot after surgery.

¡CARAMBA!

Maybe this does not seem like it should be a big deal, right? I do not have a whole lot of experience being cut open and pain. None, actually. So the Lord first of all ministered to me, I SHALL NOT FEAR WHAT MAN SHALL DO TO ME! Now I am faced with regrouping and steeling myself for yet another delayed desensitized chemotherapy (see previous blog posts) and gearing up anew for going under the knife on May 22 and recovery.

The delay will allow me time to give attention to a recently deceased aunt’s estate and put some “historical” items up for sale. What spiritual benefit could there also be? I wish I could relate some profound lesson that I suddenly understood today. Without a doubt we have all experienced the disappointment I felt his morning and can identify with the letdown.

It is just one more day in our lives that we need to rest in, rely on, and trust our Good Shepherd to guide and protect us.
Cast the whole of your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

DISS-ed, again

Not to get tetchy, but… “Kids these Days”

or ANY Days, for that matter!

Admittedly, I remember in my early 20’s not getting why an older lady at work did-or didn’t do-things a certain way. But I was not disrespectful like nowadays.

A friend recently commented on the unprofessional conduct of the millenials at her place of employment as well as how rude they were to fellow employees that had a few years on them!

A word to you parents: if your children (adult or otherwise) do not treat you or others respectfully, look at how they observe you dealing with authorities.

Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. 1 Cor. 8:1

I learned a life-changing lesson a few years after I left that job. I was at a new office, hired by a man that was about 15 years my senior. He was SO arrogant and thought he knew it all! I determined very quickly not to become like him and committed myself to be teachable, no matter the comment or who made it.

Rehoboam

1 Kings 12

6) King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give you me to return answer to this people?

7) They spoke to him, saying, …

8) But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.

9) He said to them, What counsel do you give, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke that your father did put on us lighter?

10) The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying…

Sooo…verse 13

“The king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him,”

But you are not like Rehoboam, cuz you are reading this blog

I have a lot of years in ministry under my belt, so hopefully experience has taught me a thing or two. And one of them is not to try to put my own self forward.

Becoming Effective Kingdom-builders!

The foolishness of a believer without being grounded in the Word or Godly counselors is evident to ALL!

Pr. 17:28 Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.

So why do so many people neglect to look to the wise counsel of God’s Word!!???

In two passages, read 2 Peter 1:5 and 2 Timothy 2:15, the Bible admonishes us to “make every effort” or “to be diligent” using a variation of the Greek word, spoude.

I personally experienced the confusion in regards to the Person of the Holy Spirit of the members of a Flemish church in Belgium that merely enjoyed enthusuastic worship and exhortational messages, but had no solid Bible TEACHING.

If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God, or if I am speaking from myself. John 7:17 (WEB)

Teaching in this verse is <didache>-pronounced did-akh-ay {accent on last syllable}-which means “instruction (the act or the matter):–doctrine, hath been taught.”

In the King James version of the Bible of this same verse teaching=doctrine.

We may not be Bible scholars, but everybody needs to be instructed in the fundamentals of the Faith.

Isaiah says in chapter 28,

Whom will he teach knowledge? To whom will he explain the message? Those who are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts?

10 For it is precept on precept, precept on precept; line on line, line on line; here a little, there a little…

Then in order to be effective workers in the harvest-

Heb 6:1 Therefore leaving the doctrine of the first principles of Christ, let us press on to perfection–not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, of faith toward God,

2 of the teaching of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.

3 This will we do, if God permits.
