What’s the big deal about “the Word of God?”

1 Cor. 2:13 (WEB) Which things also we speak, not in words* which man’s wisdom teaches, but (words) which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things

A lot of people have difficulty “understanding” the Bible if it is not a modern translation. Since it is Spirit & alive, it can be understood from within, directly from the Holy Spirit to your spirit. Imagine a newly-saved 17 year old being “instructed” by God to read/study the Book of Romans before even getting into a church!!???

It happened…

God’s Word, Itself, produces changes/fruit in our lives.

How can it be?

How does this happen?

The Word is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword!

Scofield’s notes*

1) The writers of Scripture affirm, where the subject is mentioned by them at all, that the words of their writings are divinely taught. This, of necessity, refers to the original documents, not to translations and versions; but the labors of competent scholars have brought our English versions to a remarkable degree of reliability, so that no essential truth of Scriptures is ever under any question.

2) 1 Cor. 2:9-14** gives the process by which a truth passes from the mind of God to the minds of His people.

a) The unseen things of God are undiscoverable by the natural man (v.9**).

b) These unseen things God has revealed to chosen men (vv.10-12**).

c) The revealed things are communicated in Spirit-taught words (v. 13**). This implies neither mechanical dictation nor the effacement of the writer’s personality, but only that the Spirit infallibly guides in the choice of words from the writer’s own vocabulary (v.13**). And

d) these Spirit-taught words, in which the revelation has been expressed, are discerned, as to their full spiritual content, only by the spiritual among believers (1 Cor. 2:15-16***).

**2Co 2:9 For to this end I also wrote, that I might know the proof of you, whether you are obedient in all things. (WEB)

**2Co 2:10 Now I also forgive whomever you forgive anything. For if indeed I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven that one for your sakes in the presence of Christ,

11 that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his schemes.

12 Now when I came to Troas for the Good News of Christ, and when a door was opened to me in the Lord, (WEB)

13 I had no relief for my spirit, because I didn’t find Titus, my brother, but taking my leave of them, I went out into Macedonia. (WEB)

***2Co 2:15 For we are a sweet aroma of Christ to God, in those who are saved, and in those who perish; (WEB)

16 to the one a stench from death to death; to the other a sweet aroma from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? (WEB)

Brain burning? How’s that for digging into God’s Word??!!!
