Jesus as Saviour

Jesus as example makes me very conscious of my faults, my shortcomings, my sins, my weakness, and my failure to conform to that ideal.  My mind agrees with the ideal, but my will does not respond to it.

Miserable wretch that I am!  Who will rescue me fro this body of death?  God will!  Thanks be to him through Jesus Christ our Lord.’ (Romans 7.24-5, Moffat).  This is the gospel, the Good News.

I find I need more than an idea:  I need a Saviour to save me from the guilt of sin; to save me from the power of sin; I need a Saviour whose grace is sufficient to enable me to live a life of unselfish service and love.

Behold the Lamb of God; which taketh away the sin of the world. (John 1.29).

Thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1.21)

There is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4.12)

My faith looks up to thee

Thou Lamb of Calvary,

Saviour divine!

Now hear me while I pray,

Take all my guilt away,

O let me from this day

Be wholly thing!

May thy rich grace impart

Strength to my fainting heart,

My zeal inspire;

As thou has died for me,

O may my love to thee

Pure, warm, and changeless be,

A living fire!
